Our goal with our new Guide brakes is to provide an hydraulic braking system for mountain bikes that only takes 10 minutes to bleed (compared to the Elixirs that took 4 hours) and don’t feel spongy! In fact we just bought Shimano brake technology, had some DOT4 lying around, stripped all the logos off, and pasted our own.

Inside joke for all the cyclists in Oppo.

Funny, a friend of mine just had her Guides act up yesterday, some manufacturing defect. This is why I keep nursing along the old Juicy 7's on my Kona, they’re great. Noisy as shit, but they just take a beating and stop hard. They’ve seen their last rebuild though, so I’ll have to change to something else come time.

I can never get a good lever feel out of the XOs on my other bike either. It’ll last for a bit, then go mushy, no matter how good a bleed I get. They were bro-deal brakes so I can’t really complain, but they’re not very confidence inspiring. There’s a SRAM office here, and if those guys didn’t have to ride company product, they’d be on Shimanos too. I really want a set of Saints.

I went straight from a ‘92 Marin with cantilevers to an ‘06 Kona with juice discs, skipping V-brakes entirely.

The only people who like their sram hydro’s are riding the Guide’s or Guide R’s. I’ve been on XT hydro’s for about 7 years and have never had one single problem.
